It marks a historic milestone as she will become the first woman to hold the position in US history.
“Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns,” Trump said in the press release. “Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again.”
The 67-year-old Wiles is the daughter of Pat Summerall, a legendary National Football League broadcaster who played as a place-kicker for several NFL teams, including the New York Giants.
A University of Maryland graduate, Wiles has been a powerful yet low-profile figure in Republican politics. In a 2022 article, The Hill described her as “the most powerful Republican you don’t know.”
Wiles has played a pivotal role in Trump’s political career, guiding his campaigns and contributing to multiple victories. She was also mentioned by Trump multiple times in his victory speech in Florida, where he referred to her as “The Ice Maiden.”
"'The Ice Maiden,'" Trump said from the podium. “We call her ‘The Ice Maiden.'"
“It is a well-deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history," Trump said. "I have no doubt that she will make our country proud."
